Born in 2002, Oxford, Sophie Ives is a contemporary painter based in London. People, places, and time drive the work. She breaks down the constraints that time and place hold by merging together encounters from disparate locations and timelines. Allowing her paintings to become fluid narratives of the human experience.

A significant aspect of the work lies within the process itself. The state she enters while painting. The experiments, discoveries and happy accidents along the way are crucial. The act of painting becomes a form of transcendence, a meditative experience where the self gets left behind—each mark informing the next. The paintings often adopt a fly-on-the-wall perspective, concerned with the fleeting nature of life, the charm within the mundane and the traces and tracks that we leave behind.
